Hearth Cooking at Scotchtown

Spending a lovely Saturday at Patrick Henry's Scotchtown a second year in a row is a wonderful opportunity.  It was a really lovely day to interpret with my friends, Kerry McClure and Gema Gonzalez, as well as participating with the 1st Virginia Regiment at a small, local event.

Kerry and Gema spent the day in the house portraying Mrs. Ambler and Mrs. Cary respectively.  Patrick Henry sold Scotchtown about March 1778 to Wilson Miles Cary for £5000.  The danger of British attack in the Tidewater greatly enhanced the price of land in Hanover, and many fled from the possible impending war.  Mrs. Mary Cary Ambler is visiting her sister-in-law, Mrs. Sarah Miles Cary.

It was a pleasure to prepare tea for the ladies, and serve it in the house!  The site coordinator was very accommodating and we had a wonderful, busy day!  There was a photography club that came through, so a lot of photos were taken!

If you have not visited Scotchtown in Beaverdam, Virginia, it is a must see, AND their giftshop now has items that we can use in our living history impressions (or if you just like the look of them in your home).  :-)
